I didn't check the mail until after six, so the leasing office was closed for the day. I called the number on the threatening letter but was referred to an unpersonalized voicemail. I left a message.
Faced with eviction, I figured it was in my best interest to research the situation as much as possible. I went online and checked my credit card statement. Sure enough, no rent had posted for July. I called Chase to confirm their system hadn't arbitrarily declined the transaction. The charming lady on the other end of the line assured me I had a gazillion dollars in the account and no transaction had been attempted.
Wonderful.
I drank a jug of wine and fell asleep.
The next morning I shaved, dressed, and wandered over to the leasing office at nine sharp. I had three conversations with three employees and received three different answers. To maintain some level of coherence in the comic, I've merged them into a single lackey.
